Indian Education System, remarkably one of the systems in the world out there churning out tens and thousands of students as engineers, doctors etc.., I can’t speak for the doctors and their education systems, but to be an engineer, One goes through a grilling of 2 or more years to make it to the IITs, NITs and other premier institutes of the country. What’s the worst part is that more than 50% of the students who really enter these universities to pursue their sciences / engineering degrees aren’t really interested in what they’re doing. Oh Oh ! So why here doing something they don’t like and carrying on with it for the rest of their lives ?
Seeing a lot of fresh faces on campus its a delight that so many people taking up engineering and sciences as the career stream they’d love to specialize in. A whole lot of IIT-JEE cleared entrants walked into campus on the very first day with the spark in their eyes and a desire to make something out of their lives, build their dream projects or their passion towards pursuing their subjects. It’s been one semester since these young creative minds have been in campus and I could notice the spark in their eyes slowly dying out and most of them just treating their engineering as just another extension to the painful class XI and XII courses and grilling coaching centers.
Listening is one of the key skills that a person should be possessing. It’s a beautiful combination of hearing what the other person has to say while at the same time being able to involve oneself into their thought. Listening is considered as a language skill but moreover overlaps itself into the space of a soft skill.
